Mental Health and Wellbeing Team

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Team offer a free and confidential service to BCU students. The team is made up of Wellbeing advisors, Mental Health advisors, counsellors and CBT therapists. We are a student led service meaning that students need to register themselves in order to access this support from the university. The team operates on a “one at a time” model of support, so students can flexibly access support as and when they need it, and there is no limit on the amount of sessions they can access.

The Mental Health and Wellbeing Team offers appointments to students between the hours of 9-5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding bank holidays), 51 weeks of the year. To find out more about the team and the support we offer, please see our iCity page. To see who the advisors are within the team, please see here: Meet The Team : Birmingham City University.

Can I refer a student to the Mental Health and Wellbeing Team?

It is important to note that Report and Support is not a referral route into the Mental Health and Wellbeing team. Report and Support is designed to report concerns about harmful behaviours or safeguarding concerns and should be used when there is a known or potential risk to a students or other persons safety.

If there is no known, or potential risk, we would advise that you have a conversation with the person you are concerned about and signpost them to our service for wellbeing support: Mental Health and Wellbeing Team : Birmingham City University, you can also signpost them to external services: Crisis & out of hours support : Birmingham City University. The most effective way to support people to access support for their Mental Health and Wellbeing, is to provide them with the information directly at the time of your interactions with them.

If you become aware of any known or suspected safeguarding concerns, please do not hesitate to report this via Report and Support.
